Pinned toot

I could really setup office here in Killarney Provincial Park. All I need is a satellite internet connection.

Twitter used to be useful because of how many users it had you could instantly check on an event that may be happening right now like did anybody feel a small earthquake or a specific website being down.

It seems now that the twitter search is censored and the results do not help as much. Last week there was an issue with Google upgrading their docker engine bringing down many sites and not a single mention on my twitter search. Very hard to believe!

It may have also been my reluctance to trust the shops on the network. I used the Haven app. This makes the whole process seem much cleaner which may have subconsciously convinced me that it is more trustworthy now.

I am not sure why I haven’t purchased anything previously. Maybe it was because of the high fees that Bitcoin has. It now supports Bcash, Zcash and Litecoin now. I used Litecoin. I think if I used Bcash, crypto twitter might find out and I’ll be forced to leave the platform due to harassment!

I finally purchased something from after setting up their software many times and browsing non stop. I purchased a simple SATA cable, I believe from China. Let’s see how well this process works!

It is very annoying that you need to verify your wallet in the Brave browser even just to add into the wallet. I just donate any BAT earned as tips to websites I visit but can not add more BAT to be able to donate more.

I understand the need to verify when taking money out as the company that operates Brave browser needs to comply with laws in the USA.

Secure Scuttlebutt's new website is now live at scuttlebutt.nz/ . The project seems to continue to grow.

Dear @pixelfed why is “not showing likes” a site wide setting and not on the user level? I know you want to copy Instagram, but this is just crazy. The #fediverse should be about people, not domain owners.

@Gargron Hey Eugen, thanks, man. I’m going to go in there and give the talk I’m going to give tomorrow. I hope I will do Mastodon proud and I hope that I will show them how centralised differs from federated differs from peer-to-peer and how Facebook, etc., are scum of the earth and do not deserve a place at the table (they have one tomorrow, of course).

Thanks to the whole fediverse for the warm welcome for this new XSF (XMPP Standards Foundation) account 👍

I am enjoying creating random webpages on and using ( Name Service) to buy a domain name. It feels like the late 90s creating on GeoCities.

I am able to buy a domain (something.eth) and point that to a IPFS file or folder and access it either through something.eth using metamask or visit it at something.eth.link .

I am looking forward to ENS (.eth) domains names to become native on both the Brave browser and Opera. This will allow it to be used by more people.

@vurpo
It is true there is no Twitter style verification on Mastodon. However, you can link to another website with which you have edit rights. If you create a mutual rel="me" link from Mastodon Preferences to that other website, you will get a green tick on your profile page, like this:
mstdn.io/@fitheach

It doesn't prove anything about you other than you have access to a Mastodon account, and also have access to the other website, but that does have value.

Welcome to all the people from India that are joining Mastodon in these days!!

#india #introductions and #followindia can be helpful hashtags to find other people just arrived here like you.

We understand that you are still unconfident with this platform, therefore here you will find some helpful tips to better understand how #Mastodon works:

- There is no such thing as "A" social network called Mastodon! Instead there are thousands of independent social networks called Mastodon Instances.
- Every Instance has his own server, community, rules, admins and moderation.
- Every Instance can interact with users that are on other Instances, exactly like email works (you can send an email from gmail to yahoo, right?).
- Every Instance can choose to silence or completely block another Instance (i.e. because permits bad behaviour)

Remember that even when you trust a company to not share your information, if they can access it, that means they can be compelled to give it up. Dangerous times we love in and majority of folks don't even realize it.

If every user on ActivityPub had a private key and signed all of their toots then the network could also be spread by a gossip protocol similar to what Secure Scuttlebutt does.

It is crazy how the general public love military victories even when the enemies and locations do not matter to their own lives. This in regards to the video released of the killing of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
